Hi, I'm Spud
I have a heart for helping folks find belonging in all that they do. After spending more than 10 years running social ventures that nurtured creative communities, I decided it was time to share what I had learned with others.
In 2021, I published Designing Creative Communities which quickly became an Amazon bestseller. I was humbled to realize that people around the world were hungry to learn how to build belonging in the places they live, work, learn, and play. Readers shared with me that they found inspiration from my work and were using the models in their own communities.
Now I share those approaches with folks around the world through My Creative Community. I've worked with everyone from Fortune 500s to federal agencies, and universities to small nonprofits. Regardless of the setting, I strive to help folks like yourself build communities that foster connection and collaboration!
What are Creative Communities?
We live in a time where people crave authentic connection and collaboration.
We no longer find community solely with a handful of friends we see in our neighborhood. Nowadays, people crave to build meaningful relationships in all aspects of their lives – with their work colleagues, with the people they live alongside, and in the spaces they learn, grow and play. As the world becomes more connected, the value of nurturing relationships matters more than ever!
But many of us don't know how to intentionally build those communities.
That's why we exist; to help people build those communities. We strongly believe that when individuals take ownership in actively creating communities that they are proud of, they show up as their best self. They bring joy, energy, and an eagerness to contribute.
Regardless of where those communities form, investing in individuals to proactively design creative communities results in a positive impact. Companies perform better because employees have a stronger sense of belonging and purpose. Small towns attract more talent and discover an increase in economic development. Schools see improved engagement because students take an active role in guiding their learning.
When people feel fully seen and are encouraged to contribute their ideas, they find the belonging they've been searching for. And that benefits all of us.
